what no mention of 'Jaanix'...
exchange is a searchable database that's where it adds long-term repeated value (that's why gmail works) OWA won't cut it when u use it as a DB.

I am using OWA only to keep in the loop.. we have 2003 deployed.. it seriously sucks.. no search what so ever.. so frustrating. gmail rocks..

.... most corps these days delete all mail after 90 -180 days (legal liability).. so the database effect is not happening...
it is also scary what legal liabilities could be in that 3gb of gmail..... has that ever been subpoenaed?
"Googles terms of service state even deleted emails may remain in backups indefinately.. now those emails are being asked for by a federal judge."

thats why there is sharepoint :)
if the pitch is that IT shops are changing - agreed. If its skype goes enterprise wide a la the UC space I struggle to see that. [Even UC has some trouble standing still its moved from Unified IM\email to unified VoIP\Video]. Todays UC space is wrought with problems, Telcos (incumbents), hardware players (Avaya, Nortels {dump there stock}) and the software plays - MSFTs UC platform and maybe skype, then the partner eco-systems (polycoms etc)...I've being on vendor calls trying to sell and they want unified alright, unified all of the above players without changing there current footprints - customers are very confused, although potentially excited by the idea...outside of that skype does not have the eco-system\setup to sell into enterprise unless I missed something in eBays most recent earnings report & IT won't let it happen organically. But that's just an opinion, like a bellybutton everyones got one...

the pitch is that the relationship between IT and the users is changing. I am making my IT out of the web. e.g. Twitter is part of my personal IT..
and yes.. UC is a total mess..
